How to Fix Defective Floats on Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers
Hampton Bay dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air to reduce the spread of mold and mildew in areas with poor air flow. Some respiratory conditions are exacerbated by high levels of moisture in the air, making a dehumidifier an essential appliance. When moisture is removed from the air, it is collected into a large bucket. A float tells the unit to shut off when the water level reaches capacity. Fixing the float if it causes the unit to malfunction is often relatively straightforward. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Carefully slide the bucket out of the bottom of the dehumidifier to get a good look at the float and float arm. Normally, the float is attached to the end of the arm. Make sure there is nothing tangled around the float arm. Move the arm up and down to test the motion. Any foreign objects in the water bucket could weigh down the float.

2
Attach a small block of polystyrene foam to the end of the float arm with a rubber band if the one supplied with the unit is missing. Anything buoyant enough to raise the float arm as the tank fills with water will work. You may be able to purchase a replacement float for your model on line.

Swap out the wire float arm and shut-off switch. Switch off the power to the unit and remove the screws holding the black switch at the end of the arm to the unit. Swap the wire connections to the new part and screw it in place. Attach the float from the old mechanism to the end of the new arm and plug the unit back in.
