Slow Stutter on an Optical Drive

Incompatible disc formats and regional codes may cause your optical drive to stutter. This problem often occurs in the beginning of a CD-RW, DVD-RW or Blue-Ray disc writing job. When interrupted streams happen midway or towards the end of the project, it's typically due to a couple of other things. Your optical drive may be set to write at a very fast writing speed or your computer is programmed to enter standby or sleep mode.

Instructions

  1. General

    • 1

Check the disc format for optical drive compatibility. Confirm that both the disc and optical drive have the same regional code. Review your equipment's owner's manual for the regional code distribution statement. The disc's back cover packaging typically contains this information.

    • 2

Close all other running applications before writing on the optical drive. Interrupted streams may cause hesitation or stutter errors.

    • 3

Select a slower write speed using the writing software that came with your optical drive. Start the software and then select the "Help" menu for more information.

    Deactivate Sleep and Standby Modes

    • 4

Take your computer out of sleep and standby modes before writing to lower interrupted streams during disc writing. Click the "Start" button.

    • 5

Click "Control Panel," then click "System and Security."

    • 6

Click "Change plan settings," then click "Change settings for the plan."

    • 7

Click "Change advanced power settings," then double-click "Sleep."

    • 8

      Double-click "Sleep after."

    • 9

If your computer is a laptop, click "Plugged in," "On battery," or click both options. Click "Never," then click "Setting." Otherwise, for desktops, click the arrow, then click "Never."

    • 10

Double-click "Display," then repeat Step 6 and select the "Never" option. When finished, double-click "Hibernate after, then repeat Step 6 and select the "Never" option.

    • 11

Click "OK," then click "Save Changes."

    • 12

Reactivate sleep and standby modes when it's finished writing. To do so, repeat these steps, except select a time from the list of available options as opposed to "Never."
