How to Troubleshoot a G1000 172
Troubleshooting a G1000 navigation system in a 172 model Cessna airplane is fairly straightforward. Many of the alerts that sound or display will explain the nature of any problem, making it clear what to remedy. Cessna Nav 3 GDL 69 Troubleshooting

1
Subscribe to XM Radio and activate the subscription. Only the owner or operator of the aircraft should do this. This step works only if the GDL 69/69A is installed.

Ensure that the circuit breakers are connected and working properly. The circuit breakers ensure a steady power supply to the GDL 69/69A.
-
-
3
Turn the big FMS knob and select “AUX Page Group.”
-
4
Turn the small FMS knob and select “System Status Page.”
-

NAV 1 and COM 1

6
Check the GIA1 and the PFD configuration settings to see if there is a red X in the NAV1 or COM1 box.

7
Check the Ethernet connection from the GIA1 to the PFD. Switch GIA1 and GIA2, which will help locate the problems. If the problem is in the GIA1, replace it; if the problem continues replace the PFD.
-
8
Follow the same steps for checking NAV2 or COM2. If the problems is the GIA2 replace it, and if it continues replace the MFD.
-
9
Make sure all cell phones are switched off, then check the GPS1 and GPS2 signal strength on the AUX, if a red C appears in the GPS INTEG or Time box.
-
10
Check the Ethernet connection between the PFD and GIA1 or MFD and GIA2 for problems. Check the corresponding GPS cable and antenna. If the error persists, switch GIA1 with GIA2 to locate the problem location. If problems is in the GIA replace it; if it continues replace the MFD or PFD.

Check the integrity of the GDC 74A pilot/ static plumbing. Inspect the pilot/static ports and any associated equipment. Inspect the GTP 59 probe in the case of a TAS fail.
-
13
Check the GDC 74A settings for the GIA1, GIA2, MFD and PFD. If the settings are okay on the PFD, MFD and GIA, replace the GDC configuration module; but if it continues, replace the GDC 74A.
