How to Distress Clarks Leather Shoes

Clarks leather shoes are a brand of shoes sold for both women and men at various retailers, including J.C. Penney. Clarks shoes come in a wide variety of styles. While some styles of Clarks leather shoes already have a slightly distressed look, other styles are more pristine and have a patent leather, or shiny leather, look to them. The new leather shoe look can be shed, though, by distressing the shoe manually. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Stuff the Clarks shoes with old newspaper or tissue paper.

    • 2

Wrap the end of a rubber mallet with an old rag and then hammer the shoes with it. Specifically focus on the top, the heel and the toe of the shoe.

    • 3

Mix 3 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol and a cup of water in a spray bottle and shake it up. Spray the mixture onto the Clarks shoes to help soften the shoes.

    • 4

Sand the seams and the heel area of the shoe with a fine-grit sandpaper. Run these areas in small and tight circular motions with the sandpaper.

    • 5

Scrub the shoes down with a stiff wire brush to distress the shoes even further.
