How to Get the Yahoo Webcam to Work on Mac's iChat

IChat is the default instant messaging application that comes with every Mac computer.

The Yahoo! Messenger program lets you use a webcam to video chat with other Yahoo! Messenger users. The iChat application that comes preinstalled on every Mac computer also lets you video chat with other users, and is compatible with any webcam that can be used with the Yahoo! Messenger program. If you want to use your Yahoo! Messenger webcam in the iChat application on your Mac, you must simply select the camera in the application's "Audio/Video" preferences menu.

Instructions

1. Connect the webcam to the computer via the USB or FireWire connection cable that came with the device.

2. Click the "Finder" icon in the computer's dock, followed by the "Applications" folder icon. Double-click the "iChat" application icon to launch the application.

3. Click the iChat menu and select the "Preferences" option. Click the "Audio/Video" tab in the "Preferences" menu.

4. Click the arrow to the right of the "Camera" heading and select the external webcam from the list of camera devices.

5. Click the red "X" icon in the upper-left corner of the "Preferences" window to close the window and save the changes. Now, iChat will use the camera you selected in Step 4 as its default camera.
