How to Fix a Front-Load Washer Rubber Gasket With Duct Tape and Silicon

Save

The boot seal is a rubber gasket that fits in the doorway of your front-load washer. This gasket seals the door when it is closed and prevents leakage. In the event of damage to the seal, total replacement is an option. However, if you have some duct tape and silicone adhesive, you can patch up a damaged boot seal.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Duct tape
  • Silicon adhesive
  • Unplug your washer and move it away from the wall.

  • Remove the screws on the back of the washer's top panel. Remove the top panel and set it aside.

  • Pull the detergent dispenser drawer out of the front of the washer. Remove the screws in the drawer housing.

  • Remove the screws on the corners of the front panel of the washer.

  • Pop the internal clips of the washer control panel and remove the control panel.

  • Lift the front panel of the washer up and remove it.

  • Grip the metal ring under the door gasket with your pliers and pull out the ring.

  • Inspect the top of the gasket for damage. If there are cracks or gaps in the gasket, place duct tape over the damaged areas.

  • Peel the gasket away from the doorway. Look for any areas that have become completely detached from the doorway.

  • Apply a line of silicone adhesive to the area of the gasket that has come detached from the doorway. Fit the gasket back in the doorway.

  • Replace the metal ring in the doorway and reassemble the washer.
