How to Format Bullets in NeoOffice

How to Format Bullets in NeoOffice thumbnail
Use bullets or numbers to identify a list or outline in a document.

NeoOffice for the Mac lets you create text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, databases and drawings. The program supports multiple list and outline styles for text documents and presentations and lets you use numbers, symbols or images for each bullet point. The outline style allows you to use a combination of bullet types and lets you specify a different style for each level of the outline, if desired. Advanced formatting options also let you change the position and spacing of bullets.

Instructions

    • 1

Open NeoOffice. Create a new document or presentation, or click the "Open" button on the toolbar to open an existing file. If your document already contains text that you want to format with bullets, highlight the text with your mouse cursor. Otherwise, you can set the bullet formatting options before you type anything.

Click the "Format" menu and select "Bullets and Numbering." This displays a window with tabs for selecting a bullet style, numbering type, position and spacing and advanced formatting options.

    • 3

Click the "Bullets" tab to select a bullet style that uses black dots, arrows or shapes, or click the "Graphics" tab to select a style that uses colored graphical symbols for each bullet. Click the "Numbering Type" tab to select a bullet style that consists of ordered numbers, letters or Roman numerals, or click the "Outline" tab to select a style that uses numbers, letters and symbols for different levels in a list. Click any displayed style on either tab to set it as the document's bullet style.

Click the "Position" tab to change the position and spacing used for bullets. Select a level in the left pane's list to see a preview of the position and spacing indicated by that particular level. You can also manually select a numbering alignment position and values for each bullet's indentation and alignment in the fields in the right portion of the window.

    • 5

Click the "Options" tab to configure advanced options for bullet styles that use graphics or numbering. Click the "Numbering" drop-down list to select the numbering scheme you want to use, or click the "Graphics" drop-down list to select a customized image to use for bullet points. Click the "Consecutive Numbering" option to use consecutive numbers at all levels in an outline or list.

    • 6

Click "OK" after selecting a bullet style and any advanced formatting options. If you are formatting existing text, each item will now include a bullet or number. If your document is empty, a bullet or number will now appear in the document so that you can begin creating your list or outline.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you want to stop adding items to an outline or list, click the third icon on the Bullets and Numbering toolbar to turn off bulleting.

  • You can rearrange items you have placed in a list. Click the item in the list and click the up arrow or down arrow on the Bullets and Numbering toolbar to move the selected item up or down the list.

  • If you are formatting bullets for a presentation, NeoOffice does not allow the outline style.
