Add laser etching to your silverware.

An etched set of silverware is a sophisticated way to bring a bit of elegance to your table setting. If you have a set of silverware on hand on which you'd like to add an engraving, you can do it at home using a handheld laser cutter, which can etch out engravings onto even the narrowest surfaces. However, it does take some practice to complete. Use this tool to add engravings, such as a monogram to the ends of your silverware.

Instructions

    • 1

Program the controller, the computer portion of the laser-engraving machine, with the pattern you want etched onto the silverware, such as the first initial of your last name.

    • 2

Choose the speed and size options on the controller to determine how large and how deep the etching will be. You'll need small dimensions for the handle of a knife or fork.

    • 3

Place the silverware on the surface portion of the engraving machine, positioning the laser above it in the spot where you want the etching done.

    • 4

Press the start button on the machine to allow the etching to begin. Stand behind the laser while it is etching and turn the laser off before handling the silverware again.

    • 5

Repeat the process to complete the etching on your entire set of silverware.
