How to Get Just the Instruments and Not the Singer
The "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero" video game series let players experience what it is like to be in a real band. Players can sing or play guitar, bass, drums or keyboard along with the songs that come on the game disc. While the instrument peripherals have their own buttons and D-pads used for navigating the game's menus, the microphone requires the game console's default controller be connected in order for the singer to participate. If you do not want to play with a singer, however, you can do so by not connecting the microphone or default controller to the game console.

1
Connect all of the instrument peripherals you want to use to the video game console. Do not connect the console's default controller or the microphone peripheral while playing, as these are what causes the console to believe that a singer is present.
-
2
Insert the music simulation game into the console's optical drive and launch the game.
-
-
3
Use the D-pad and buttons on the instrument connected to the console to select the game mode that you wish to play. These game modes include "Quick Play," "Career" and "Free Play."
-
4
Use the D-pad and buttons on the instrument to select your character, song and venue. Once all of these have been selected, the game will begin. As long as you did not connect the console's default controller or microphone, you will begin playing without a singer.
