How to Make Your Own Dart Board Wall Hanger
Even the most accomplished dart players will miss the 17 3/4 inch diameter regulation-size board from time-to-time. Often those misdirected darts end up sticking to the side of or below the board. If a wall hanger isn't behind the dart board, those sharp points will end up in your wall. Overtime, your wall will have a mess of tiny pen holes from darts. With a wall hanger, most of these misguided darts will never have an opportunity to enter your drywall. Does this Spark an idea?

- Tape measure
- Saw
- Corkboard paper
- Scissors
- Felt
- Staple gun

- Pen
- Flush mount
- 1 x 1/4 inch wood screws
- Electric drill
- 1 inch drywall screws
- Tape

- 1 inch nail
Instructions
-
-
1
Obtain a 1/2 inch piece of plywood. Use a circular saw to cut it 3 1/2 feet wide and 4 feet long. At 3 1/2 feet wide, 1 extra foot will remain on each side of the board. Most of the 4 foot length is positioned below the dartboard.
-
2
Cut a piece of corkboard paper the same height and width of the plywood board with scissors. Bead wood glue on the back of the paper and glue it to the front of the plywood.
-
-
3
Wrap two yards of green, or colored, felt around the front of the plywood, and staple the material to the back of the plywood with a staple gun.
-
4
Find a place to position the dart board hanger on the wall. Find a place that is well-lit, and not near a doorway or other high traffic area.
-
5
Place a stud finder flat against the wall. Move it from left to right until a stud is found in that area. Mark the stud with a pen.
-
6
Turn the dart board surround over. Center a flush mount on the back of the surround, 3 inches from the top. Ensure that the tongue of the flush mount is facing down.
-
7
Drive #1 x 1/4 inch wood screws through the flush mounts screw holes and into the back of the surround.
-
8
Place another flush mount flat against the wall. Position the flush mount 6-feet by 9-inches from the floor, and ensure the tongue of the mount is facing up.
-
9
Mark the flush mount screw hole with a pen. Remove the flush mount, and predrill a hole into the stud using an electric drill.
-
10
Line the flush mount screw hole with the predrilled hole in the wall, and screw it into place using 1 inch drywall screws.
-
11
Slide the dart board wall surround's flush mount into the wall flush mount. The top of the wall board is now sitting 7 feet high.
-
12
Measure 5 feet 8 inches up from the floor, and mark this measurement on the surround. The bulls-eye of the dart board must be 5 feet 8 inches from the ground.
-
13
Place a strip of tape horizontally across the board. Position the tape so it sits just at the 5 feet 8 inch mark. This will provide a guide when hanging the dart board.
-
14
Center the dart board on the wall hanger. Make sure the bull's-eye is flush with the tape marker. Place a light mark just above the top of the dart board on the wall hanger with a pen.
-
15
Remove the dart board and place it on a flat surface. Measure the distance from the top of the board to the nail mount on the back. For example, the mount is 4 inches below the top of the board.
-
16
Go back to the wall hanger. Measure the same distance down from the top of the board mark created in Step 15 to the mount. Mark the mount placement on the board.
-
17
Hammer a 1-inch long nail into the mount mark on the wall hanger. Then position the mount on the back of the dart board unto the nail.
-
18
Measure the distance between the floor and bull's-eye to verify that it is exactly 5 feet 8 inches from the ground. If not exact, readjust the nail in the wall hanger.
