How to Change the Wipers on a 2006 4 Runner
The windshield wipers used by a Toyota 4Runner are responsible from ensuring a clear view of the road directly in front of, and behind, the vehicle during bad weather. The wiper blades are made of rubber and will crack or tear over time, reducing their ability to clear water, mud or snow from the windshield. As a precaution, you should inspect wiper blades for damage at least monthly. If the blades are ripped or torn, they must be replaced immediately.
Instructions
-
-
1
Lift the wiper arm off the windshield or rear window until it locks into a fully raised position.
-
2
Pivot the wiper blade against the hinge at the center of the blade housing until the entire hinge is completely visible against the wiper arm.
-
-
3
Push down on the release tab, located at the end of the wiper blade hinge. Push the wiper blade down and toward the wiper arm until the wiper blade hinge separates from the hook at the end of the wiper arm. Pull the wiper blade away and discard it.
-
4
Pull the hinge out from the back of the new wiper blade housing by hand. Place the hinge in its fully opened position.
-
5
Insert the tapered end of the hinge, facing the wiper blade housing, into the wiper arm hook. Push the hinge into the hook until it snaps into place. Wiggle the wiper blade to ensure it is firmly mounted in the wiper arm hook.
-
6
Pivot the new wiper blade until it is aligned with the wiper arm. Lower the wiper arm to check the positioning of the wiper blade against the windshield or rear window.

Tips & Warnings
Wiper arms are spring loaded, so after the blade is removed be sure to carefully set the wiper arm down on the windshield if you are not immediately replacing the blade. Otherwise, the wiper arm could snap back and damage the windshield.
