How to Drape a Stole
Stoles are not just a throwback to the 50s or an accessory for upscale events. You can wear a stole anywhere and with any outfit, as long as you choose a comfortable stole that adheres to the dress requirements of where you are going. While fur stoles are not typically worn every day, regular stoles made of pashmina wool and other blends can be worn day to day. 1
Stand in front of a full-length mirror, which gives you the benefit of seeing how the stole looks as you drape it. This allows you to make adjustments accordingly.
-
2
Place the middle of the stole on the back of your neck. Pull both sides of the stole down so they hang evenly over your shoulders and down your front. It is hard to drape the stole correctly if one side is longer than the other.

3
Slip the fabric slightly off your shoulders. You want the back of the stole to fall below your neck. Fan out the fabric so it hangs over your shoulders.
-
4
Put the hanging sides of the stole behind your arms. This keeps the stole in place so it does not fall off. You can also pull one hanging side of the stole toward the opposite shoulder and drape the fabric down your back. Pull the front fabric of the stole down so it hangs over your chest.

Tips & Warnings
There are others ways to wear a stole. Wrap it around your waist as a skirt and tie the ends, or place the stole over your head and drape it around your shoulders so your neck and head are covered up in cooler weather.
Try draping two stoles over your shoulders to create contrast and provide more coverage.
You can also wear your stole as a scarf if the fabric is thin enough to not create unwanted bulk.
Look at the fabric of the stole before you wear it. Certain stoles are made of wool; if you are allergic to wool, choose a different fabric.
Fur stoles should be worn only at upscale events. Typically, these stoles are draped so they hang slightly off the shoulders
