Mix your own dubstep tracks and play them at house parties.

Dubstep is a style of electronica music popularized in Great Britain that has made its way to dance clubs worldwide. Distinctive to dubstep is a strong, repetitive bass line that has been altered by synthesizers to produce a shimmering vibration sound throughout the song. You can create your own dubstep mixes with MixMeister by using prepurchased bass tracks and mixing them over your own favorite dance songs.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose at least two audio tracks or songs from your computer's music library that will be the bass for your dubstep music track. As you are making a dubstep music mix, typically one track will have a single yet driving bass track. A second track will then be any song that you would like the bass "dubstepped" over.

    • 2

Open the MixMeister software program. The screen will be divided into three separate windows with two windows on top, each covering half of the upper screen. The window to the upper left is the library window. The upper-right window is the playback window. There will be one larger window covering the bottom half of the screen. This is your mixing window.

    • 3

Click within the library window to make this section active. Click the gray plus sign ("+") and when prompted click "OK" to "add files and/or folders." This will open a popup window allowing you to access your computer's hard drive. Access the audio bass track and song that you chose earlier. Click "Open" for each. They will be loaded into the library window.

    • 4

Click to highlight your audio bass track. Holding your cursor on the track, drag it to the right and into the playback window. Test to make sure the track has transferred properly by highlighting it and clicking the "Play" button found at the top of the window. Click the "Stop" button when playback is confirmed. Repeat for the song track.

    • 5

Look at the mixing window and observe that your audio bass track and song now occupy two separate tracks in the window. The bass track is on the top or first track. The song track is on Track 2 below it. You can see the audio imprints of each on their tracks and visually the bass track appears to play first, with the song track beginning after the bass imprint ends. To complete a traditional dubstep mix, click on the song track and drag it to the left on its track until it is directly under the bass track and in position to start at the same time.

    • 6

Click the "Play" button on the playback window and you should hear the bass track and song start playing at the same time. Click "Stop."

    • 7

Choose how you want your mix to sound. In a typical dubstep mix, the bass track is loudest in the mix. To bring this track's sound up in the mix, go to the mixing window and click on the bass track to highlight it. Then click on any blue square and drag it up or down to reflect the volume of the track. As you drag the square, the actual volume will show in dB (decibels). When you finish editing the sound level, click "Play" again to check your mix.

Fine-tune your mix by adjusting the volume of both bass track and song until you are satisfied with them. Save your mix as a music file to your desktop by clicking the green "export" button in the playback window.
