      Stand outside in the sun with a handheld mirror. Look at your hair in the sunlight and examine it for red tones or highlights. If you find these in your hair, select a blond hair color treatment designed specifically for people with red highlights. Doing so will prevent your hair from looking yellow as opposed to ash blond after bleaching.

      Wrap foil sheets around any strands of hair that you don’t want to bleach or color.

      Put on a pair of plastic gloves. Apply the bleaching kit to your hair and let it remove pigment from your hair for 45 to 50 minutes.
