DIY Blacklight Ink

Scribe a classified message, create an eye-catching party decoration or create anything else you want with blacklight ink. Blacklight ink is composed of a substance that absorbs the rays from blacklight, making them visible. With basic materials, you can create blacklight ink and compose a glowing letter or draw a luminous image. Simply hold a blacklight over your writing or drawing to illuminate the ink.

Things You'll Need

• Liquid brightening detergent
• Water
• Bowl
• Spoon
• Blacklight
• Paintbrush
• Dark paper

Instructions

1. Combine equal parts liquid brightening laundry detergent and water in a bowl. Mix the liquids together with a spoon.

2. Hold the mixture under a blacklight to determine how well the ink glows. If the solution doesn't glow as much as you like, add more detergent. Retest the mixture under the blacklight. Keep adding detergent until you are satisfied with its glow. Be mindful that the more detergent you add, the thicker the mixture will be, making the ink visible to the naked eye.

3. Dip a paintbrush in the detergent and water mixture. Use the paintbrush to write a message or draw a picture on black or dark colored paper.

4. Allow the ink to dry. Hold the paper underneath a blacklight to see the ink glow.
