Bamboo blinds will allow light through.

Bamboo blinds are an attractive, affordable window treatment. However, they are somewhat see-through and allow sun in. You may want to add privacy by attaching a privacy liner to the back of the blind. This will block curious eyes, darken the room and increase the insulating properties of the room. You can add a privacy liner yourself for minimal cost. Choose a fabric that coordinates with your room and isn't too overwhelming from the outside. When view from the exterior, the liner is all that will be visible. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the blind while it is lying on a flat surface.

    • 2

Cut your privacy liner to fit the measurements using a straightedge, such as a yardstick, and sharp scissors. Hem the edges with a one-quarter-inch hem. This also makes the overall liner one-quarter-inch shorter on each edge, so it can't be seen behind the blind.

    • 3

Apply a seam of polyvinyl acetate glue to the blind one-half inch from the edge of the blind.

    • 4

Press the liner in place on the blind and allow it to dry for several hours. Rehang the blind.

Tips & Warnings

  • You only need enough fabric to cover the blind that shows in the window. If your bamboo blinds are longer than the window, measure the window and cut the liner to fit the window.
