How to Adjust the Fluidmaster Flapper Flush Volume
In an effort to help conserve water -- and reduce water bills -- some homeowners install a Fluidmaster conversion kit to their existing toilets. To ensure that the toilet flushes properly, fine-tune the Fluidmaster adjustable flush valve after installation. If you have a Fluidmaster conversion kit installed in your toilet, take a few moments to check the flush valve, and then adjust the flapper to the lowest setting consistent with an efficient flushing action. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Turn off the toilet water supply shut-off valve. Flush the toilet and remove the tank lid.
-
2
Identify the numbered dial printed on the rim of the orange Fluidmaster flapper valve in the bottom of the tank; use the pointer opposite the flapper chain attachment point as your reference point. Although flush volumes are not specified, the dial is numbered from one to nine, with the figure “9” representing the highest flush volume and the figure “1” representing the lowest flush volume.
-
-
3
Rotate the flapper until the figure “4” is opposite the pointer; this is the standard flush volume setting.
-
4
Open the water supply shut-off valve and allow the tank to fill up. Wad up a couple of paper towels, drop them into the bowl, and flush the toilet to test its efficiency.
-
5
Reduce the flush volume further by rotating the flapper counterclockwise by a small amount toward a lower number, and run another test flush. Keep repeating this action until you reach the lowest flush volume consistent with efficient toilet flushing.
-
6
Replace the tank lid to complete your adjustments.
