How to Fix Cracks in Porcelain Frying Pans
A porcelain frying pan is not 100 percent porcelain. The base of the pan is metal, usually iron, steel or aluminum, which is coated in a porcelain enamel to prevent the metal from reacting with food. The porcelain is usually simple to clean, but the pan can rust quickly if the enamel is cracked. Exterior cracks need repair as soon as they occur to ensure that the pan stays in good shape for as long as possible. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wash the pan in warm water and several drops of dish soap to clean off any food debris or stains. Dry the pan thoroughly with a clean rag.
-
2
Rub the crack with 120 grit sandpaper to sand down the crack and roughen the texture so it responds more effectively to the repair. Wipe away any loose sand from the pan with the rag once sanding is complete.

3
Mix an epoxy adhesive according to package instructions and apply it to the crack using a toothpick. This helps ensure the adhesive gets into the crack. Wipe away any excess once the crack is filled. Allow the repair 24 hours to dry.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid painting the repair because the pan is used in cooking and food preparation. The repair will be visible but the porcelain remains sealed.
Replace the pan entirely if the crack is on the inside where the food actually cooks. Use the repair technique only when the enamel is cracked on the outside of the pan.
