How to Make Felt Puppet Mouth
Give your hand puppet major personality with a big, talking mouth. Hand-puppet mouths are typically made with felt and when put together well, they will thrill and entertain kids for hours. You might be familiar with making simple hand puppets out of socks, but are not sure how to create the big-mouth look of popular TV puppets. You can easily create this mouth on your puppet using basic items you likely have around your home.
Instructions

-
1
Lay an adult-size sock flat on your work area.
-
2
Cut the toe area in half lengthwise, cutting just to where the toes would end if someone were wearing the sock. This is the mouth area.
-
-
3
Cut out an oval-shaped piece of cardboard that will fit inside the cut you made in the sock. Fold the cardboard in half.
-
4
Unfold and cover one side of the oval cut-out with felt. You can use any color you want for the puppet mouth.
-
5
Fit the felt-covered cardboard inside of the slit on the sock with the folded edge first.
-
6
Stick your hand in the sock from the ankle end and adjust the felt mouthpiece so that it fits properly in the cut you made. Cut away any excess material around the mouth if necessary.
-
7
Remove your hand and open the felt mouth wide, stretching the sock around it.
-

Lift up the mouth slightly and place hot glue around the edges, then press the edges of the sock around the mouth to set it in place. Allow the glue to dry fully before using or adding more items to your puppet.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to give the puppet a tongue, cut out a felt tongue shape and glue it to the bottom part of the mouth that will stand out.
If you are not sure how far down the toe end of the sock you should cut for the mouth area, put the sock on first and mark the spot where your toes end and the rest of your foot begins.
If you don't want a talking mouth and you just want a basic felt mouth, simply cut a closed lip shape out of red felt.
