Instructions

    • 1

Fold a piece of paper in half horizontally. Cut two slits, about an inch in length and an inch apart, on the folded edge of the paper.

    • 2

Unfold the paper and push the cut section through so it bends the opposite way of the main fold. You can fold the page again to create a new crease where the cut section meets the page, to help keep the tab in the same position.

    • 3

Cut out an object or character from the story out of construction paper. Glue the figure to the popped out tab.

    • 4

Fold a second piece of paper horizontally. Place it on the outside of the first page and glue them together. Be careful not to get glue on the cut out portion of the page, or your tab will not be able to pop up.

    • 5

Repeat steps 1 through 4 to create as many pages as necessary to make your book.

    • 6

Stack the pages together and glue them together so the back of one page attaches to the front of the next.

    • 7

Cover the entire book in a large sheet of construction paper to form a cover. Let your child decorate the cover using crayons or markers.

    • 8

Ask your child to write the story out on each page of the book. You can show them how to use the pictures on each page to help tell the story.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't let young children use scissors unsupervised.
