Ariens is an American manufacturing company specializing in landscaping equipment such as tillers, lawn mowers and snowblowers. Many Ariens snowblower models offer a wheel differential lock feature that allows you to set the wheels to turn together for better snow traction or separately for better turning and maneuverability. The stress of regular use causes wear and tear on the wheel differential lock components. If one of these components fails, the entire assembly should be removed for repair or replacement.
Things You'll Need
- Pin driver
Remove the tapered groove pin securing the lock assembly to the left wheel axle. Force the groove pin out from the small end, using a pin driver and mallet.
Take out the roll pin holding the knob and compression spring to the lock hub, using the pin driver. Slide the lock assembly from the axle shaft and remove the left wheel axle.
Remove the roll pin from the right wheel axle. Slide the differential, also known as the spur gear, from the axle.
Pull the right axle out of the snowblower drive assembly.
