Appliances require routine maintenance when squeals, clanks or thumps occur during use, but the cause of a noisy washer may be improper loading rather than an error with the appliance. The Frigidaire stacked washer and dryer is prone to squeaking when the washer is overloaded, as too much laundry forces the agitator to work harder to turn during use. Lightweight fabrics put less stress on the washer's agitator than heavy fabrics, but packing the washer's drum tightly with either weight results in a persistent squeak that over time wears out the agitator.
Things You'll Need
- Laundry basket
Open the lid of the washer and remove one-third of clothes from the washer.
Set the damp clothes in a plastic laundry basket. Distribute the clothes evenly around the agitator to maintain the washer's balance.
Close the washer's lid. Turn the knob on the washer's control panel to the right to increase the load size. The washer's water level must be higher than the load of laundry in the machine for proper cleaning.
Push "Start" to resume the cycle, or open the lid again and remove more clothes from the washer if the squeaking noise persists. Remove heavier clothes from the load first to balance the load.
Close the lid and press "Start" to continue the wash cycle. Remove the clothing from the washer after the cycle finishes. Start a new wash cycle with the previously removed clothes.
