How to Fix JBL Pro Compaq Speakers
The JBL Pro Compaq speakers connect specifically to the Compaq Presario desktop computer. They output audio frequencies between 20 hz and 20,000 khz and include a bass-boost feature. Some common issues with JBL Pro Compaq speakers include no sound output and audio distortion. These problems can often be fixed with few quick actions.

1
Examine the audio connections between the JBL speakers and the computer. Often if you cannot hear sound through the speaker there is an error in the connection setup. The left speaker should be connected to a green 1/8 inch jack on the back of the Compaq computer. The right speaker should be connected to a red 1/8 inch jack right on the back of the machine. Make sure the audio cables sit securely inside the jacks. A loose connection can also stop audio from playing.

2
Look over the speakers for signs of wear. The speakers may have a damaged wire, speaker cone or electrical component that's stopping the audio from playing. Check the back end of the speakers where the audio cables reside. Any burn marks, fraying or discoloration mean the wires have worn out. If this is the case the speakers must be sent to JBL for repairs.

3
Lower the volume of the audio source. If the speakers consistently distort or crack, the audio signal may be to loud. Click the speaker icon in the lower-right corner of the computer. Select the "Sound Properties" option. Lower the volume slider in the "Output" section of the menu. This reduces the volume level sent to the JBL speakers. Try playing audio again through the speakers and observe the results. If the speakers still distort, lower the volume slider further.

4
Unplug the JBL speakers from the Compaq computer and let the devices cool down for 30 minutes. Computer speakers sometimes overheat if used for extended periods of time or when playing at peak volumes. The speakers shut down automatically to avoid blowing out the internal speaker cones. Place the speakers in a room temperature environment to ensure they cool down.
