Deep well pumps move the water in well systems. Deep well pumps often combine aspects of centrifugal pumps and injector pumps to move the well's water. One element needed for the correct operation of a deep well pump is a proper prime. Priming a deep well pump fills the casing and piping system of the pump with water so that proper water movement is achievable. Deep well pumps have a hole in the casing for easy priming. This hole is covered by a prime plug.
Step 1
Remove the rubber or plastic prime plug from the top side of the pump. Run a water hose to the exposed hole on the top of the pump.

Step 2
Run water through the water hose and into the pump casing. Allow the hose to run until water runs out of the casing due to the casing being full.
Step 3
Remove the water hose from the pump. Partially insert the prime plug into the hole on top of the pump. Run the pump system until no air bubbles emanate from the bottom of the plug.
Step 4
Remove the plug and fill the casing with water once more. Partially plug the hole and run the pump until the air bubbles cease. Repeat the filling and running actions until water leaks out of the pump instead of air bubbles, then fully insert the prime plug into the pump.
