How to Take Pictures for Outfits With IMVU

The Daily Outfit Challenge on IMVU is a contest in which a user submits a picture of his avatar wearing an outfit that matches a specific theme chosen for the day. IMVU voters then select a picture based on several factors, such as outfit appearance, adherence to the theme, picture quality and creativity. If you can't quite get your outfit pictures to look the way you want, don't worry. IMVU provides you with all the tools you need to take pictures that stand out from the rest.

Instructions

1. Open the IMVU messenger and click “Dress Up” on the home screen to access the main avatar dressing room or go to your room.

2. Select different pieces for your avatar’s outfit from the My Avatar section at the bottom of the screen that match the outfit theme for the day. To select a piece, click a clothing icon such as “Tops,” “Bottom” or “Accessories.” Click “Add” on a product thumbnail to add it to your avatar.

3. Select a background for the picture. If your avatar is in the dressing room, click one of the color blocks on the left side of the screen. If your avatar is in your chat room, click a posing spot to position your avatar in front of a background or click a posing spot. Click the “Furniture” icon marked with a chair image at the bottom of the screen and then add a background to the area.

4. Click the “My Outfits” icon -- marked with a hanger image -- at the bottom of the screen and then click the “Save Outfit” button to take the picture. The outfit appears without the background in the My Outfits area at the bottom of the screen.

5. Click the “i” on the picture thumbnail to open the Outfit Information card. Click the “Change Picture” button. Another framed area appears around the avatar on the screen.

6. Frame the shot. Click the directional arrows to move the field of view right, left, up or down. Turn the scroll wheel left or right to change the angle of the shot to any position 360-degrees around the avatar. Click the zoom “+” and “-” buttons. Alternately, click and drag the zoom slider to zoom in and out.

7. Click the camera shutter button to take the picture with the background included in the shot. It saves to the My Outfits area and your IMVU avatar homepage Gallery.

Tips & Warnings

• If you’re trying to take a picture of a your avatar wearing an outfit in front of a background for your personal use, click the “Photo” button marked with a camera image at the bottom of the screen, frame the shot and click the shutter button. For this type of snapshot, you can also select a frame style -- vertical or horizontal -- with the buttons below the frame.

• Use only clothing and accessories allowed under the IMVU Submitted Virtual Goods Ratings Policy.

• Always take a picture of the entire outfit, or as much of the outfit as possible, as the contest voters focus on the whole outfit.

• The Save Outfit feature only allows a vertically framed shot.

• Editing the picture in third-party software to submit for the DOC will disqualify your entry for the contest. Outfits that don’t match the theme are also disqualified.
