Power on your Archos 604.

Press and hold the "TV/LCD" button while the device is still powering on; this will cause the 604 to enter "Recovery" mode.

Highlight "Format Hard Drive," then select "OK." The Archos 604 will automatically reset and restore itself to its original factory settings, recovering the data files that were lost, moved or corrupted.

Tips & Warnings
While you can recover lost system data files, you cannot recover lost user data files, such as MP3 files. Restoring the device to its original factory settings will erase the user data files. You can attempt to transfer the user data files to your computer via a USB cable before running "Recovery" mode if you want to keep them.
