How to Connect a CCTV

A CCTV camera can help to protect your property.

A CCTV camera is designed to connect to a DVR using its BNC connection. If you want to connect a CCTV camera directly to your computer instead of a DVR, you need to install a BNC video capture card in your computer. The BNC video capture card installs into an available PCI slot in your computer. The video card converts the analog signal from the CCTV camera into a digital signal that the computer can decipher.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your computer, then remove all cables and peripherals that are connected to it.

    • 2

Remove the computer's casing or side panel to reveal the PCI slots. Depending on the model of your computer, you can remove the casing or side panel by sliding it off or removing the screws. If applicable, remove the slot bracket for the PCI slot that you want to use by sliding it out after removing the retention screw.

    • 3

Align the video capture card connectors at the bottom of the device with the PCI slot. Insert it into the slot firmly, but gently. Fasten the video capture card to the PCI slot by replacing the retention screw.

    • 4

Replace the casing or side panel, then re-connect the cables and peripherals.

    • 5

Turn on the computer. Windows automatically recognizes and installs the video capture card after it completes the boot process.

    • 6

Insert the CCTV camera's BNC connector into a BNC port on the video capture card. Launch the security software on your computer to view the video image from the security camera.
