How to Remove Scratches From TFT Monitors

Remove scratches from TFT monitors by rubbing petroleum jelly lotion into the scratches. This method works because petroleum jelly possesses the same optical density as the plastic coasting on a TFT screen. As such, when you view the screen from straight on, you will not see the scratch anymore. This solution is not perfect, however, in that the scratch will still be slightly viewable from different angles.

Things You'll Need

  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Water
  • 2 polishing cloths
  • Spray bottle
  • Petroleum jelly lotion
  • Cotton swab

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the spray bottle with a 50/50 solution of isopropyl alcohol and water, spray a few drops on your TFT monitor and gently wipe it away with the first polishing cloth.

    • 2

Apply a generous dose of petroleum jelly lotion to the end of a cotton swab, and run the swab along the length of the scratch until the lotion covers it in its entirety.

    • 3

Wipe away the jelly with the first polishing cloth, then gently buff the screen with the second polishing cloth until the scratch has lightened or completely disappeared.
