How to Delete a Point With Scissors on GIMP

Sometimes considered the poor man's Photoshop, GIMP is graphic design software on par with major graphic editing software when it comes to basic graphic design. Being open-source software, GIMP is free to use and is available for every major operating system -- including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The GIMP interface, however, is somewhat different than Photoshop or Paint Shop Photo Pro; therefore, performing some tasks in GIMP, such as deleting part of an image with the Scissors tool, requires a different process.

Instructions

    • 1

Open GIMP. Unlike other graphic editing software, GIMP opens as three windows: the Main Toolbox, the Image Window and the Dialogs and Docking boxes. The usual menu items are found in the top of the Image Window.

    • 2

Click "File," then "Open" on the Image Window menu bar, then browse to and open the image you want to edit.

    • 3

Click "Tools," "Selection Tools," and "Intelligent Scissors" to activate the Scissors tool.

    • 4

Click by the point you want to delete to place a control point, then continue to click around the point to place more control points.

    • 5

Click the original point to close the loop around the point. Click and hold a control point to move it to a different spot.

    • 6

Click inside the control points to convert the point into a selection, then press the "Delete" key to delete the point.
