Getting the Right Size Jeans for a Slightly Portly Waist Size
Wearing jeans that fit you properly can help you maximize your assets and minimize your trouble spots. If you have a bit of a belly, take the time to find jeans that show you off at your best. The wide variety of jean cuts and styles available can make shopping for new pants seem overwhelming -- especially if you don't know your size. You can always ask a shop assistant for help, but you also can keep your mall excursion quick and painless by determining your measurements beforehand. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Spread a pair of jeans that fits you comfortably at the waist flat on a table. Zip and button the fly and arrange the pockets so the material lies straight.
-
2
Slip a measuring tape inside the top of the jeans and measure the waistband. Don't measure from the outside, because that adds the bulk of the material to your measurement. Record the girth in inches.

3
Measure your own waist if you do not have a pair of jeans that fits you well. Stand in your underwear and run the measuring tape around yourself where you want your jeans to sit. Slide a finger under the tape to make sure you don't measure yourself too tightly. Record your girth in inches.
-
4
Lay a pair of pants that are the proper length for you flat on the table. Measure the distance from the ankle to the crotch and record it in inches. If you do not have a pair of pants of suitable length, measure the distance from your ankle, where you want your pants to fall, to your crotch.

5
Take your measurements with you when you shop. Write your waist measurement first, then your leg measurement, called your inseam. When you shop for jeans, the size will be written as "waist x inseam."

Tips & Warnings
If the sizes in a store do not use the "waist x inseam" format, ask a shop assistant for a size chart. The chart should tell you which sizes correspond to which measurements.
Don't be tempted to measure yourself too tightly out of a desire to wear a smaller size. Jeans that fit you properly help conceal a slightly portly waist; jeans that are too small accentuate it.
