How to Get Scratches Out of a GE Range thumbnail
Buff or fill in scratches to eliminate blemishes on your GE range.

GE ranges made of stainless steel of porcelain are durable, but they are not scratch-proof. Cooking appliances are prone to scratches caused by dragging cookware across the burner grates, which results in minuscule scratches that dull the otherwise smooth finish. Stainless steel ranges require buffing the surface to reduce the appearance of the scratch while a porcelain surface is fillable with touch-up paint sold by GE. The scratch will no longer be visible once it is buffed or filled in. Does this Spark an idea?

    • 1

Squirt the household cleaning spray onto a soft cloth and wipe down the scratched surface. Wiping down the area with a mild cleaning solution eliminates dirt, dust and other debris that gets caught in the scratch's groove and prepares the range for buffing.

Pour one to two drops of stainless steel cleaner onto the abrasive cleaning pad.

    • 3

Rub the dampened sponge against the scratch in long, continuous strokes to smooth it out.

Wipe a clean, soft cloth over the smoothed-out surface to buff out the scratch.

Dip the touch-up brush into the bottle of porcelain paint filler and brush the excess paint off of the touch-up brush.

    • 8

Brush the scratched surface with the touch-up brush with long, smooth strokes to fill in the scratched area. Wait for the paint to dry completely before using the range to cook.
