Glittering A T-Shirt
Adding a little glamor to your wardrobe is simple when you add glitter to your own shirts. Whether you want to add glitter all over your shirt or only add a few glitter highlights, making your own glitter shirts takes little time and allows you to add your own personal touches to your wardrobe.
Things You'll Need
- Medium-sized canvas
- Round-head craft pins
- Glitter spray or fabric paint

1
Place a medium-sized piece of canvas front-side up on a flat surface. Use a large enough piece of canvas to accommodate the size of your shirt.
-
2
Lay your T-shirt front-side up on the canvas. Center the shirt in the middle of the canvas. You want the entire shirt to easily fit on the canvas.
-
-
3
Insert a small pin into the outer edge of the sleeve. Weave the pin in and out of the shirt and canvas so it securely holds the sleeve in place. Insert another pin on the outer edges of the shirt sleeve a few inches away from the first pin and weave it so it has a secure hold.
-
4
Gently pull the shirt so it stretches enough to eliminate any wrinkles or bumps in the shirt fabric. Insert and weave two pins in the shirt sleeve.
-
5
Insert and weave two pins in the collar of the shirt and along the shoulders. Stretch the bottom of the shirt down and pin along the outer edge of the bottom of the shirt. Your shirt should now lay flat and be securely pinned to the canvas.
-
6
Take your canvas into a well-ventilated area, such as outdoors or in an open space. Hang the canvas on a wall or place it front-side up in the grass. You need a well-ventilated area so you do not breathe in harsh chemicals while applying glitter spray or paint.
-
7
Spray or paint the shirt with glitter spray or fabric paint. Use products that are specifically designed for fabric. Adequately cover the areas you want with glitter. If you want the entire shirt covered, spray or paint the glitter onto the shirt starting at one side and working your way over toward the other side. Use smooth, even motions.
-
8
Let the paint or spray dry thoroughly before applying another coat or turning your shirt around.
-
9
Unpin the shirt and turn it over. Pin the shirt to the canvas as you did before. Spray or paint the glitter onto the back of the shirt in the same manner. Let the back dry thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings
Add more glitter to your shirt by sprinkling loose glitter over the wet fabric paint or spray. Shake off the excess glitter and let dry for at least 72 hours.
If you want to add designs to your shirt, pin stencils in place before you apply the glitter.
For small glitter highlights, take a glitter fabric pen and draw your own images or trace over designs on the shirt. Let the glitter fabric glue dry thoroughly before wearing.
Cotton shirts work best for glitter application.
Do not dry the shirt in a dryer. Hang the shirt inside out and allow it to air-dry.
