Attach a skirt to a leotard using a hook-and-loop fastener.

In activities such as ice skating, ballet and other forms of dance, females may often need to wear a leotard beneath a skirt. These skirts are generally made out of a translucent fabric such as tulle, polyester georgette or chiffon, and are usually bought separately from leotards. These skirts generally tie around the waist over the leotard; this allows versatility, but may also lead to wardrobe malfunctions during performances if the ties come undone. To ensure that your skirt stays put, there are certain steps you can take to attach it to your leotard.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Self-adhesive hook-and-loop fastener

Instructions

    • 1

Put your leotard on as you would wear it during your performance or other activity. Wrap your measuring tape around your waist. If you usually wear your skirt around your hips, measure around your hips instead. When taking this measurement, wrap the tape around the area of your torso where you usually wrap your skirt. Note this measurement.

    • 2

Unfurl a role of self-adhesive hook-and-loop fastener. The self-adhesive version of hook-and-loop fastener should come with protective backing on both the hook and loop sides of the roll. Lay the long strip of hook-and-loop fastener flat on a table. Use your measuring tape to apply your measurement from Step 1 to the strip, starting from one end of the strip and measuring in. Use scissors to cut your measurement.

    • 3

Peel apart the hook strip from the fastener strip. You should now have two strips of equal length.

    • 4

Pick up the fastener strip and remove the protective covering from the back. The self-adhesive should now be exposed. Carefully wrap this fastener strip, with the adhesive side facing toward you, around your waist or other area where you plan to attach the waist of your skirt. The fastener strip should now be affixed to your leotard. Smooth the strip around your waist to ensure that it adheres properly.

Lay your skirt on a flat surface, with the "inside" of the skirt facing you and the "outside" of the skirt touching the flat surface. Pick up your hook strip and remove the protective backing on the adhesive side of the strip. Carefully stick your hook strip onto the inside waist band of your skirt, using the adhesive backing to attach it securely across the length of the skirt's waistband. Apply pressure across the length of the strip to secure it to the skirt.

Pick up your skirt and wrap it around your waist, lining up the hook strip on the skirt with the fastener strip on your leotard. It should now be attached to your leotard.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rolls of hook-and-loop fastener can come in different colors. Purchase hook-and-loop fastener in a color that matches your leotard and skirt. For example, if you own a black skirt, purchase black hook-and-loop fastener. If you own a white or pale pink skirt, purchase white hook-and-loop fastener.
