When you buy an appliance that uses gas, it comes from the factory preset for natural gas, since natural gas is used more commonly than liquid propane. While there are some appliance stores that will do the conversion for you, many will not. This means that you have to convert your Kenmore gas stove from natural gas to LP gas yourself. The procedure is not difficult, however, and requires no special tools. It takes about 30 minutes to complete the conversion.
Things You'll Need
- LP conversion kit
- Adjustable wrench
- Nut driver set
- Paper towel
- Wrench set
Turn off the gas to the stove if a connection exists. Disconnect the gas pipe from the stove using an adjustable wrench.
Remove the grates from each of the stove burners and set them out of the way. Raise the top of the stove and prop it up. Remove the orifice from each of the burner assemblies using a nut driver.
Place the LP gas orifice on each of the burners using the nut driver. Remove the hex nut from the gas regulator under the stove with an adjustable wrench. Pull the plastic out of the regulator and turn it over.
Install the hex nut on the regulator and tighten it with the adjustable wrench. Tighten the orifice on the oven with the adjustable wrench to allow it to burn LP gas.
Connect the gas line to the stove and tighten it with an adjustable wrench. Turn on the gas supply to the stove.
