Look at cordless sanders for their convenience, but remember that they are heavier and require recharging their batteries.

Consider a low-speed sander for finer finishes. High-speed sanders leave a rougher finish, but take a lot of material off with little effort.

You'll have it forever so spend a little for a decent one. Craftsman is a good brand but there are many good screwdrivers out there.
