Carefully inspect your oven to identify symptoms of common issues like misleved racks and improperly configured settings.

Correctly troubleshooting your GE PGS908 gas range can make the difference between being able to continue using it and having to send it in for service. The good news is that most issues you encounter can be rectified by adjusting system settings or replacing malfunctioning or broken components like light bulbs. Remember that some issues will not even be related to your ranger, but instead to your household components, such as your circuit breaker or fuse. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Troubleshooting Mechanical Issues

    • 1

Remove the lightbulb if the oven light stops functioning by turning the glass cover in the oven's ceiling counterclockwise until the tabs of the cover clear the socket grooves. Unscrew the lightbulb and replace it with a new 120/130-volt halogen bulb. Replace the cover by fitting it into the socker and turning clockwise. If it still does not work, the switch operating light is broken.

    • 2

Remove and replace the oven door if it becomes crooked and out of position. Peform the removal by opening the door, pulling the hinge locks down, halfway closing the door and lifting it up until the hinge hinge arm is clear of the slot. Replace it by seating the indentation of the hinge arm into the bottom-edge of the slot, fully opening the door and pushing the hinge locks up.

    • 3

Ensure that the power cord has been inserted into a live and properly grounded outlet if the burners do not turn on. Also, check your fuse and circuit breaker.

    Troubleshooting Cooking Issues

    • 4

Disable the "Auto Recipe Conversion" feature if the set baking temperature automaticaly reduces itself by 24 degrees Fahrenheit. Perform this by holding both the "Broil" and "Bake" buttons at the same time for 3 seconds until "SF" shows up on the display. Press the "Convection Bake Multi Rack" twice. Finish by pressing the "Start" button.

    • 5

Make certain that you chose the proper oven settings and that the racks are leveled if your food does not bake, roast or broil properly. Also, for the best results, use proper cookware.

    • 6

Unlock the range if, after cooking a meal, you are unable to light the burners again to cook another meal. Perform this by allowing the range 15 minutes to cool down and then holding down the "Range Lock-Out" button for 3 seconds until "LOC OFF" appears on the display.

    Troubleshooting Miscellaneous Concerns

    • 7

Turn off the surface burners and allow the range to cool before trying to turn on the self-cleaning function.

    • 8

Turn the knob out of the "LITE" position and on to an appropriate setting if, after lighting the burner, you hear a ticking sound. If it persists, try turning the borner completely off and reigniting it.

    • 9

Push the knob in before you turn it, if the control knobs seem like they will not turn.

    • 10

Ignore yellow tips on the outer cones of soft blue burner flames, but immediately call for service if the entire flame is colored yellow.
