How to Install a Pressure Valve for a Shower Faucet
A pressure valve for a shower is contained in a single cartridge that controls water flow into the shower. This cartridge valve installs inside the base area of your shower in the part called the shower body valve. This valve connects to your water pipes and it feeds the pressure valve. If you are new to faucet installation, this project may take a little more than two hours. The most difficult part is getting all the parts in order prior to the installation. Take apart the faucet by shutting off the water in the home. Remove the faucet handle set screw with an Allen wrench and pull off the handle. Take the trim sleeve off, remove the O ring and unscrew the bonnet. Take the old pressure valve out of the faucet and remove the gaskets from the inside of the shower body valve.

2
Install the gasket rings on the bottom of the pressure valve by placing them over the inlet holes, if the gaskets are not already on the valve cartridge. Or, set the gaskets into the base of the shower body valve, over the two inlet holes. Bare in mind, some valves do not have external gaskets to install, others do. If your faucet has no gaskets, skip this step. You do not need to take apart the faucet to complete this step.

3
Push the pressure valve into the shower body valve. On some showers, it is important to first line up the valve so it slides into the grooves in the shower body valve.
-
4
Screw the bonnet nut over the pressure valve by turning the bonnet nut clockwise. Tighten this nut to hold the cartridge in the body valve. Push the O ring over the valve and onto the front of the shower body valve.
-
5
Place the faucet's trim sleeve over the valve. This is the sleeve that covers the valve and hides it from view.
-
6
Fit the trim plate onto the shower wall and line up the mounting holes in the trim plate with the screw holes on the outside of the shower body valve. Insert, thread and tighten the screws with a screwdriver.
-
7
Place the handle on the end of the faucet pressure valve, on the part called the stem. Screw in the handle's set screw with an Allen wrench to hold the faucet place.
