How to Control a TRIAC With a Stamp PLC
A stamp PLC -- or programmable logic controller -- is a digital automating device. It can connect different types of currents and be switched on or off to control the electrical flow. You can use it control a TRIAC -- or triode for alternating current -- connecting it to another device and monitoring the signal with the Stamp PLC. Though the wiring varies by both TRIAC and whatever the device you connect to uses, the basic process is the same.

1
Connect the TRIAC wires to the analog or digital input on the Stamp PLC -- depending on whether your TRIAC is analog or digital. These are marked as "AIN" and "DIN." There are multiples of each -- 1 to 4 and 1 to 8 -- but they are all the same. To connect wires to the Stamp PLC, slide the bare tips into the sides and tighten the screws to hold them.

2
Connect the wires from whatever device you’re connecting to the TRIAC in the analog or digital outputs -- "AOUT" or "DOUT."

Punch your electrical program into the device, using the 18 buttons on the back. There is a theoretically infinite number of possible programs, but if you don't know PLC programming codes, your product manual will have many basic ones.
