How to Make Face Tonic From Rose Water & Glycerin
Commercial skincare products often contain a bewildering list of unpronounceable ingredients, which may or may not be good for your skin or the environment. Traditional herbalists use a variety of herbs and flowers as ingredients for face tonics, and you can make your own using all-natural substances. According to natural beauty expert Janice Cox, rosewater has cleansing, astringent properties --making it an ideal face toner. Adding glycerin turns the toner into a creamy moisturizer. Things You'll Need
- Rosewater
- Glycerin
- Electric mixer
- Distilled water
- Witch hazel
- Lavender oil, optional
- Bottle

Combine two parts rosewater and one part glycerin. Blend them thoroughly with an electric mixer until you have a smooth, thick lotion.

Add up to one part distilled water. Pour the water in slowly while continuing the blend the mixture. Add water until the tonic reaches its desired consistency -- thick for a moisturizing lotion, thin for a toner.

Mix in up to 1 tablespoon of witch hazel, to increase the tonic's toning properties. Witch hazel is an astringent that helps cleanse and close pores. Add a drop of lavender oil to sooth skin, if desired.

Transfer the mixture into an airtight bottle. Store it in a cool place for up to four months.

Tips & Warnings
To make your own rosewater, pour 2 cups of boiling water over 1 cup of fresh rose petals, and let them soak for an hour. Strain the water into a bottle.
