How to Make a Mini Hat With a Removable Stretch Headband
The idea of a doll-sized hat on an adult might seem a little strange at first, but this trend is making its mark everywhere from steampunk conventions to the red carpet. Mini hats attached to headbands are easier to wear than those that pin into place, and you can buy mini hat headbands at some party stores, but why buy when you can make your own? Create a mini hat to match your favorite outfit; you can make the headband removable for even more versatility.
Things You'll Need
- Plain mini hat
- Feathers
- Ribbon
- Sequins
- Hot glue gun and glue
- 2 snaps
- Stretchy headband

Choose a style or color scheme ahead of time and sketch out what you want the hat to look like so you will know just what to buy at the craft store. Place your embellishments on the hat in whatever arrangement you would like. Move them around until you find the arrangement you like best.

Glue a ribbon is around the base of the hat where it meets the brim. Adhere smaller items that should be closer to the fabric of the hat first, such as sequins. Attach larger items such as strands of beads or feathers last. Allow to dry.

Put the headband on and place the hat where you would like it to sit. Mark the spot on the headband that is directly beneath the hat. Glue one side of each snap to the underside of the hat's brim.

Hold the hat over the headband where you have marked it, and make two more marks where the snaps would touch the headband. Glue the other sides of the snaps onto these marks. Allow the glue to dry and snap your mini hat into place.

Tips & Warnings
Mini hats can be purchased at many craft stores.
Try covering the entire hat with sequins for a flashy hat. Or glue a broach in a tiny bouquet of feathers and pin it to the side of the hat for a masquerade or show-girl style.
