Kern Pressure Cooker Troubleshooting

Kern is an international corporation that manufactures cooking supplies and utensils. One item the company manufactures is a pressure cooker. These cookers function the same way as any other pressure cooker: by sealing the lid and cooking food quickly with internal pressure. These cookers are made up of a few components, so every once in a while problems may arise. Most of these problems can be identified and resolved in a matter of minutes, however. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the pressure cooker from the stovetop and allow it to cool.

    • 2

Open the lid of the pressure cooker and inspect the gasket around the rim. Check for signs of deterioration. A bad gasket is likely the reason steam leaks out from a closed pressure cooker.

    • 3

Remove and replace a damaged gasket with a new one. Install the gasket with the text on the unit facing up, so you can read it.

    • 4

Check the lid for signs of warping. If the sides of the lid are bent or warped, then they won't function with your pressure cooker at all. Warped lids are common with older pressure cookers.

    • 5

Examine the vent pipe on your pressure cooker to ensure it isn't clogged with food debris or sooty gunk has built up. If there is, clean the vent pipe to ensure proper ventilation.

Tips & Warnings

  • When cooking high-foam foods, such as apples or pasta, only fill the pressure cooker half full and add a tablespoon of olive or vegetable oil. This will prevent the food from foaming in the cooker.
