Instructions

    • 1

Determine the location where your flagpole will stand. Attach the middle of a C-shaped bracket to the surface at the location with screws appropriate for the surface; for example, coated exterior screws are appropriate for wood decking. Place the bracket so the ends extending up are parallel with the direction the pole will be taken when not upright.

    • 2

Place the flagpole between the bracket ends. Drill a hole through the pole using the centermost holes on the bracket as guides. Insert the straight arm of a cotter pin through the holes; use a hammer to tap the pin in place, if necessary. This pivot point serves as the hinge for your flagpole.

    • 3

Attach the locking braces on opposite sides of the flagpole, parallel with the bracket at the bottom. Divide the length of the braces in half, measure that distance from the bottom of the pole, and attach the braces at that point.

    • 4

Extend the braces. Screw the middle section of the second C-shaped bracket to the surface where the braces rest. This will ensure the proper angle for the braces and give your flagpole maximum stability.

    • 5

Connect the braces to the bracket sides using a bolt and lock nut. Tighten the nut to secure the bolt, but do not snug up the brace or otherwise it will not be able to move.

    • 6

Press to lock the braces. Raise a flag up your hinged, vertical pole.
