1
Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner geared to adding volume to your hair. Volumizing shampoo won't weigh your hair down and thickens each strand of hair. Condition only the ends of your hair. Avoid applying conditioner to your roots, because this may weigh your hair down and flatten it.

2
Squeeze and pat your hair with a clean towel to remove excess moisture from your hair.

3
Apply a root-lifting spray from the roots to the halfway point of your hair. Work the spray through your hair with your fingers. A root-lifting spray adds body and volume to your hair while protecting it from humidity and moisture that can weigh it down.

Hold a section of hair from the top of your head in your hand. Lift the hair up to the ceiling so it stands up straight. Aim the nozzle of a hair dryer at the roots of the hair and blow warm air on it. The warm air dries the roots in an upright position and therefore adds volume on top of your head. Dry your hair at the crown of your head in the fashion of your choice.

5
Tease the hair at the crown of your head for additional volume. Hold a section of hair from the top of your head in one hand. Place a paddle brush underneath the hair. Start halfway down the hair shaft and comb against the grain, moving the brush toward the scalp. Keep teasing the hair at the top of your head until you reach the desired volume.

6
Apply hair spray to the teased hair to hold it in place.
