Combs help secure lace-front wigs in windy areas.

Lace-front wigs are designed to create the appearance of a smooth, natural hairline while fitting snugly on the head. Most lace-front wigs require a bit of trimming around the hairline, to conform to each individual's head shape. While these wigs are designed to fit securely, they sometimes require the reinforcement of several simple wig combs inserted at the top. A few sewing materials and a little delicate care are all you need to add combs to a lace-front wig. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Put the wig on, and ensure that the lace at the front is trimmed to meet your hairline. Take note of where you would like to place the combs to secure the wig in place. Remove the wig.

    • 2

Turn the wig inside out. Thread a needle with some sturdy thread. Push one end of the thread through the eye of the needle. Tie the two thread ends together.

    • 3

Place the first comb on the inside lace of the wig, along the edge that sits at the top of your forehead. Place the comb a couple inches to the side of the center forehead line, with the small comb tips pointing in toward the interior of the wig. Make sure the edge of the comb will not be visible when you wear the wig.

    • 4

Push the needle through the eyelet at one end at the top of the comb and through the lace wig. Then push the needle back through the lace and into the adjacent comb eyelet, ensuring that you have not gathered more than a few strands of the wig's hair under your thread. Continue making tiny stitches that just catch the wig base, to secure the comb in place.

    • 5

Push the needle through the first eyelet to create a small loop around one of the comb prongs. Push the needle back down through the second eyelet.

    • 6

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 two or three times more, to create three or four loops around the first comb prong.

    • 7

Keep sewing around each of the eyelets in pairs, to create a looped sewing technique that secures the comb along the edge of the lace wig.

    • 8

Repeat Steps 3 to 7 with the second wire comb clip, positioning it to the other side of the center line of the forehead.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add combs only where you feel the wig may be especially prone to loosening or moving.
