How to Get a Bow to Stick to an Infant's Head

Attaching a bow to your baby girl's head will make it obvious that she is a girl and can help you dress her up for special occasions. However, babies often do not have enough hair for clip-on bows until they are at least a few months old. In the meantime, stick bows to her head with basic household materials that are safe for sensitive skin. For best results, use bows that are lightweight and that do not have any clips or metal backing.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your baby's hair, if she has any, to move it away from the place where you plan to stick the bow. The bow will stick best if there is no hair under it, although it should also work if she has a little bit of hair.

    • 2

Dip a cotton swab into personal lubricant or corn syrup and dab it onto the center of the back of the bow. You should have a thin layer of about one-sixteenth of an inch deep and up to one-fourth of an inch wide and long.

    • 3

Blow gently on the lubricant or corn syrup for about 20 seconds to help it begin drying.

    • 4

Press the bow gently onto your baby's head in the position and orientation you want. Hold it in place for at least 30 seconds while you blow gently on the spot to expedite the drying process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Put a damp washcloth on the infant's head over the spot with the bow to get it to come off. Gently rub her head with the washcloth to remove remaining residue from the lubricant or corn syrup. Wipe the bow off as well and allow it to thoroughly dry before you use it again.
