How to Connect a Tub Spout to Galvanized Plumbing
Connecting a tub spout to a galvanized water pipe is accomplished in much the same way as any other type of water pipe supplying the tub. A bathtub's water pipe is either threaded or it is smooth. Tub spouts are made to accommodate either situation. When you purchase the tub spout, be sure to choose one that is designed for the type of end on the pipe. You can install a tub spout to the galvanized pipe in just a few minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the end of the galvanized pipe using steel wool. This is especially important if the pipe is threaded. Mineral deposits and soap scum can accumulate on the pipe and may make it more difficult to install the spout.
-
2
Place the base end of the spout on the galvanized pipe and turn it clockwise to thread it on, if it is the threaded-style of spout. Ensure that the spout doesn't become cross-threaded and is squarely installed onto the pipe's threads. Turn the spout until it is snug and the end is pointing squarely into the tub.

3
Insert a tub spout that isn't threaded over the galvanized pipe until the back edge of the spout base is completely against the tub's surface. Locate the set screw under the base and tighten it using a Phillips screwdriver.
