How to Fix an Old Crocheted Blanket
Perhaps you're having a baby and want to fix a hole in your own baby blanket for your little one or you just can't bear to let go of the blanket your great-grandmother crocheted for your grandmother. Whatever the reason, fixing a crocheted blanket can be intimidating, especially if you don't crochet. With a little patience and perseverance, your blanket can be good as new.

1
Locate the piece of yarn that broke and caused the hole and tie the two ends back together. Look closely and you will notice a circle of yarn around the hole. In multicolored patterns, this can be difficult to notice.
-
2
Pull on a section of the yarn within the circle until the hole closes. Pull loosely to avoid closing the hole tighter than the original pattern. Loosen the yarn if it seems too tight. Repeat this until the tightness of your yarn resembles the rest of the blanket.

3
Cut the yarn and tie the two ends together. Loop the knot through to the other side to strengthen it. Leave a small amount of yarn at the end to prevent the knot from coming undone.
Sew or Crochet
-
4
Clean up the hole in your blanket by trimming the loose ends. Tie off all but one of the loose ends; this one will be used as the beginning of your repair.
-
5
Tie your yarn to the loose end and begin crocheting, keeping as close to the original pattern as you possibly can. The end result may not be a perfect match, but it will come close.
-
6
An alternative to crocheting the hole closed is to sew it closed with a needle and yarn. This works best for those who don't know how to crochet, and for tiny holes or holes that aren't in a noticeable place. Follow the steps above and sew the hole in your blanket closed with similar color yarn. Tie off the ends with a secure knot.

Stay as close to the pattern as you possibly can.
If this is a precious heirloom, contact a professional rather than attempting to fix it on your own.
