How to Decorate Windows With Scarf Curtains

Scarf curtains add simple or ornate style to any room.

Scarf curtains add style and a dash of color to otherwise boring windows. Scarf curtains can be more easily switched out than regular curtains, and you can even place the scarves over existing curtains to add layers and color or patterns. You’ll find scarf curtains in many colors and patterns at most home decor stores.

• Curtain ties

Instructions

1. Choose a scarf color or pattern that matches the décor in the room. For example, if you have a Persian carpet, choose a scarf that matches one of the colors in the Persian carpet. If you have wall-to-wall carpet or wood floors, choose a complimentary color.

2. Set up a step ladder on a level surface near the window. Ascend the steps, bringing the curtain scarf with you.

3. Drape the curtain over the curtain rod. For wide windows, you may need to drape one end over one side, and then move the ladder to reach the other side.

4. Adjust the curtain on the rod so that it is draped elegantly. You can pull the middle section down slightly so that it forms a slight "U" shape, for example. Use curtain ties along the sides or the top of the window scarf to create other effects, such as a billowing effect.

• Use more than one scarf per window for a fuller, more layered look.
