How to Crochet So It Looks Like a Knitted Stitch
The Tunisian knit stitch, a variation of the Tunisian simple stitch or afghan stitch, is a crochet stitch technique that produces work that looks like knitted stockinette stitch on the front of the project and ridged purl rows on the back. Unlike in traditional crochet, where each stitch is completed one at a time, rows of Tunisian knit stitches are created by performing a forward pass across all the stitches in the row and then a second, or reverse, pass to complete all of the stitches in that row. Also, unlike traditional crochet or knitting, the project is never turned. All stitches are made with the project facing the same way.

Make a base chain of the desired number of stitches plus one.

Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

Insert your hook into each base chain and pull up a loop. This is the forward pass part of the process. The number of loops on your hook should be the same as the number of base chains, that is, your desired number of stitches plus one.

Yarn over and pull your hook through the first loop on the hook.

Yarn over and pull your hook through the next two loops on your hook. Continue to yarn over and pull your hook through two loops at a time until you have only one loop on your hook. This is the reverse, or second pass, phase of the process. This completes the first row.

Insert your hook between the two vertical bars of the first stitch and through the fabric toward the back of the project. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

Repeat the process of inserting your hook between the vertical bars and pulling up a loop across all of your stitches, leaving the loops on your hook.
