How to Assemble a Whoopee Cushion
Whoopee cushions have been around for nearly 2,000 years. The teenage Roman Emperor Elagabulus amused his dinner companions with a form of the juvenile humor cushion that simulates flatulence, as have numerous party-givers since. The practical joke device is composed of a rubber bladder made of two sheets of rubber glued together. A small opening is left at one end. When the cushion is filled with air and someone sits on it, the gust of released air sounds suspiciously like breaking wind. If you want to assemble your own whoopee cushion, it’s a simple project.

1
Purchase craft glue and two thin sheets of rubber that are less than 1 foot square.
-
2
Place both rubber sheets together. Cut the sheets to resemble a rounded pillow or a balloon, leaving a small rectangular opening on one end to blow up the device.
-
-
3
Glue the edges of the rubber sheets together to seal up the cushion, keeping open the air opening.
-
4
Inflate the whoopee cushion to try it out after the glue has dried. Use more glue in the air opening to make it smaller, if the whoopee cushion doesn't make the correct sound.
